Dear Friends of Feed the Hungry San Miguel,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and looking forward to the upcoming holidays and a new year.
Here in San Miguel de Allende, we have seen much growth and many changes this year, and Feed the Hungry has been growing along with it. This year we opened three new kitchens, to bring us to 37 schools that we now support. So, we are now feeding approximately 5,300 meals a day—up from around 4,000 daily meals last year. We couldn’t have accomplished so much this year without our dedicated volunteers and generous donors.
In 2024 we will be celebrating 40 years since Feed the Hungry San Miguel began its food programs. This incredible accomplishment is a great example of how important our mission and contribution to San Miguel is. The support of our donors here and abroad, over these 40 years, has made this all possible.
During the 2022-2023 school year, we provided more than 800,000 school meals and delivered food staples to families who suffer from extreme poverty through the Extended Alimentation program and the Early Childhood nutrition program.
Through our recently created Student Hydration program, more than 650 liters of purified water were delivered every month to 21 rural communities where water is contaminated or in short supply. We all know that clean water is critical to the health of our communities and to the future of San Miguel de Allende.
Once again, we will have our popular Travel With a Purpose tour (formerly called March Magic) in San Miguel de Allende, March 5 through March 11. It’s a great opportunity to visit this area’s beautiful homes and locales as an insider, not a tourist. Attendees will also go behind the scenes at Feed the Hungry, seeing our operations center and visiting a school kitchen and the children that benefit from the tour proceeds. I hope you and your friends will consider joining us for this magical event.
As we near the holiday season and the end of 2023, we are grateful for what we have been able to do this year, thanks to our staff, volunteers, and donors, who all play an important role in preventing cases of hunger and malnutrition in our municipality. We hope that you will remember Feed the Hungry when planning your holiday gift-giving and end-of-year charitable donations.
Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season and 2024,
Mike Taylor, President, Feed the Hungry San Miguel
I used to volunteer each year in the Library at Los Ricos de Abajo and loved every minute of it. I send a check each year to your address in Laredo, Texas but cannot find it in your Newsletter. Please send me the address so I can mail a check. I just purchased the book by Diane Hart with whomI used to work. Best wishes, Honora Carson. honoracarson@aol.com
