Welcome New Board Member Darryl (“Blue”) Blueitt

We are pleased to welcome Darryl (“Blue”) Blueitt to the Feed the Hungry Board of Directors. His professional experience and passion for our mission make him a valuable asset to the organization.

Born in Los Angeles, California, Blue obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University and an Executive MBA from the University of Utah. His professional career of 30 years involved the development, manufacture, launch, operations and support of science, exploration, defense, civil, and intelligence programs and platforms.

Blue’s wife, Elizabeth, is a Mexican national originally from Monterrey Mexico. After living in Puerto Vallarta they decided that they had had enough of the heat and humidity of beach life, and moved to San Miguel de Allende, where they had honeymooned years before. They regularly entertain friends, family, and visitors in their home and enjoy outdoors adventures, playing pickleball, attending art exhibits, concerts, shopping, and a good restaurant on a good night.

Blue and Elizabeth especially enjoy giving their time and support to meaningful public outreach to benefit children of San Miguel de Allende and the surrounding campo. Learn more about Blue through our recent interview:

What inspired you to join the board of Feed the Hungry San Miguel?

During a neighborhood Posada last year, I was introduced to board member Liz Dietz, who shares the same birthday as my wife (another story!). Liz told me what Feed the Hungry does, and I was hooked! We followed up our discussion with a visit to a rural school where Feed the Hungry operates a kitchen, and then over to the Feed the Hungry Distribution Center, where I now pack food on Monday mornings. Thank you, Ms. Dietz!

What unique skills or experiences do you bring to the board?

I’d say, energy, thought, and creativity are what I can bring to the board. Crazy ideas don’t scare me, and good ideas excite me. Whatever can be done to unite, empower, and educate people in whatever endeavor they undertake is a passion of mine.

How do you envision contributing to the mission of Feed the Hungry San Miguel?

Initially, just learning how Feed the Hungry operates and how the people and other organizations work together. From there always comes insight. If a divergent path is needed, a new relationship fostered, a success celebrated … those kinds of insights always bubble up in my mind and will ideally help contribute to strategic partnerships with local businesses and organizations to enhance our outreach.

What challenges do you foresee facing the organization in the coming years?

Funding is always, first and foremost, an existential focus of an NGO and its mission. I am happy to see all the many faces of good people who help in so many ways. As a Profit/Loss manager, when wearing my business development hat, I used to tell all my employees, “every one of you is a part of Business Development. Every one of you reflects who we are and what we do.” Keeping up that effective and contagious engagement is key. And then ask everyone: “What can we do better?” Then recognize and reward them.

What message would you like to share with the community regarding Feed the Hungry San Miguel?

There is a beautiful reciprocal joy I see in the faces of the workers and volunteers at Feed the Hungry, and those brilliant smiling faces of the children we feed and their educators are priceless. Feed the Hungry San Miguel is helping meet the most basic needs of thousands of children – a healthy start in life through good nutrition. These children’s potential, their future, is most precious to us, so we encourage the community to support this important work.
