This year, we celebrate Feed the Hungry San Miguel’s 40 years of service to the community. As always, we are grateful to our supporters for making this possible. Our diligent, committed staff and board members, donors, and volunteers are what keep the wheels turning and food on the plates of thousands of our beneficiaries.
Looking forward, later this year we will also be celebrating the opening of our 40th school kitchen. By the end of 2024 we expect to serve, for the first time, our one-millionth meal in a single year.
We will also welcome students when they return to school in the Fall and resume receiving their hot lunches, while their mothers receive workshops on healthy eating. In October, our third annual Walk/Run/Bike for Food event will bring together hundreds of members of our community to raise funds for our programs. As did our 40th Gala Anniversary party in April, attended by 400 celebrants.
In addition to opening a new school kitchen in Ex-Hacienda Peña Blanca in April, generously supported by an Amistad Canada donor, we are reaching out to even more communities in need. We will provide prepared meals to 110 students at the urban school “Patria y Libertad”, where we do not operate a school kitchen. The chefs and nutritionists from Feed the Hungry are volunteering extra time to serve these needy children. We will also provide food supplies for the school for the blind, Luz de Esperanza, and begin serving meals daily to students in the community of Las Cuevitas.
We thank you for your trust in us these 40 years, and in your belief that together, we can create a brighter future for all.
Mike Taylor, President, Feed the Hungry San Miguel
